Bodleian Libraries Weddings

If you are looking for historic wedding venues in Oxford that have the wow factor then I cannot recommend the Bodleian Library Weddings highly enough. Part of Oxford University, this is a venue that will make a huge impact on both you and your wedding guests.

The Bodleian is also situated alongside some iconic neighbours to include Exeter College’s enchanting walled garden and the Sheldonian Theatre. I have recently been appointed a partner to this stunning venue for 2022 and I am beyond excited at the prospect of officiating a Celebrant-led ceremony there next year.

Historical Weddings
As you step over the threshold you really feel like you are transported back in time. There is a magical feel to this venue that creates the most unique environment for your wedding day.  And as they quite rightly state on their website the venue is set in the heart of the ‘city of the dreaming spires’ and is steeped in so much romance and elegance.

There are different options for your wedding day ceremony dependant on whether you are looking for a small and intimate affair with your nearest and dearest or if you are planning a much grander occasion. Whatever you decide the Bodleian Library will, without doubt, provide the most stunning backdrop to your very special day.

Ceremony and Reception Spaces
Divinity School is part of their reception package and is just magnificent. There is the most glorious stone-carved ceiling and beautiful stone floors which will create a wedding reception space that will take your breath away. They can accommodate up to one hundred and twenty guests. With a reception package, you can choose whether you host your ceremony in the Divinity School or Convocation House.

Convocation House and Chancellor’s Court are available for ceremonies only and can accommodate up to one hundred seated guests. The room boasts a stunning fan-vaulted ceiling which is further enhanced by the most intricate carved woodwork. Just perfect for a personalised Celebrant-led wedding ceremony.

Adjoining Convocation House is the anteroom, Chancellors Court. This room is used as a private entrance for ceremonies that take place during the day and dates back to the 17th Century.

Finally, the venue offers some absolutely beautiful outdoor spaces to include the Old Schools Squad. With any Celebrant-led ceremony, there are no restrictions on where you hold your ceremony, so this could be an additional option for your ceremony. If not, it is the perfect place for your celebratory drinks once you have tied the knot if you are hosting your evening reception there too!

My late Father was a rare book dealer for over 55 years and was awarded his badge of seniority award from the Antiquarian Booksellers Association just a few years before he died. So, to have the opportunity to work with the fantastic wedding team at the Bodleian Library and in the company of some very fine wedding suppliers, I know would make him very proud.
